Christine S. Jones, Ph.D., the Assistant Director of the Center for Science, Mathematics and Technology Education, CSMATE, at Colorado State University for 14 years, has managed over twenty of CSMATE's externally funded teacher enhancement and outreach programs. Funders have included the NSF, Colorado Commission on High Education, Colorado Department of Education, and the MacArthur/AAAS. Dr. Jones has spent 30 years as an educator, pre K-16, with her most recent area of specialization in preservice teacher preparation and professional development. Currently, she is the Key Advisor for the BSNS degree, Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences, advising preservice secondary science education licensure candidates. She also is working with the College of Natural Sciences to develop the Master of Sciences in Natural Sciences Education, MS in NS degree. Prior to her work at CSMATE, she was a member of the Teacher Education faculty within the School of Education at Colorado State, teaching courses in General Methods and Evaluation of Instruction, Human Relations, Multicultural Issues, Reading and Study Skills in the Content Area, Teaching as a Performing Art, and supervising student teachers. During the last five years, Dr. Jones has collaborated with the School of Education on teacher preparation and enhancement programs including the Rural Teacher Preparation Initiative, and the Reforms in Science and Mathematics Education projects with Weld RE-1 teachers. Whether working with teachers in rural Colorado as part of the Center for Learning and Teaching in the West (CLTWest) or with science teachers from South Korea, Christine is always in awe of and learns so much from public school teachers, these most dedicated K-12 professionals. Previously, she was an Instructor in the Department of Speech Communication at Colorado State, teaching courses in Speech and Theatre Arts, and taught Secondary Language Arts in public schools in Michigan and Colorado. Dr. Jones received a Ph.D. in Staff Development and Teacher Education at Colorado State, an M.A. in Rhetoric and Public Address at Colorado State and a B.A. in Speech and Theatre Arts Education at Michigan State University. Her research, publications and presentations cover a range of interest areas including reforms in science and mathematics pedagogy, distance education and telecommunications, gifted and talented education, and gender and multicultural studies. Most recently, her work within the collaboration and partnership with El Centro Students Services at Colorado State on the Triunfo Tutoring Program has been a very exciting opportunity to make a difference with local K-12 students. * In this photo, which was taken at the COSTEP (Colorado Science Teacher Enhancement Project) fifth year all- project conference in 1997, Christine celebrates the accomplishments of all of the Poudre School District teachers with whom she has continued to work in numerous other projects.
