What do scientists really do? Join the Center for Science, Mathematics & Technology Education researchers in conducting real research based on current issues such as:
Students participating in SciTrek will learn how to be independent critical thinkers, read scientific literature, design and execute critical experiments, and interpret and represent results of complex scientific experiments. Students are expected to think, read, and participate in many different types of experiments in order to learn skills that will aide them in their undergraduate work as a scientist wanting to go into the field of veterinary medicine. Research will be conducted in state-of-the-art learning studios using Small-Scale Science techniques with personal mentoring from first-class researchers and professors. Come and join us for this unique experience! View a SciTrek testimonial from a student in the class of 2006.
The SciTrek program will be June 21 - 25, 2010, from ~9 AM - 12 Noon at Colorado State University. It is highly encouraged that students combine this experience with the Summer Vet program for a full day of science-based activities. Cost: (Note: there are a few tuition scholarships available for students who are economically disadvantaged. Scholarship applications are closed for this year.)
This program is open to students entering grades 10 through 12 in August 2010. This is not a competitive program and registrations are processed on a first come, first serve basis and limited to 30 students, so don't delay! Completed Registration Packets consist of the SciTrek/Summer Vet Registration Form, the Release from Responsibility, Assumption of Risk and Waiver Form, the Consent for Treatment of Unemancipated Minor, the Emergency Card and a copy of the student's insurance card. *For the Residential Program, students will stay on campus in the dorms (costs are based on double occupancy). CSU students will act as resident assistants and will plan evening activities with the students. Students should plan on arriving on campus on Sunday, June 20th by 5 PM to check into the dorm and plan on leaving Friday, June 25th immediately following the final class (~4 PM). Meals will be provided beginning Sunday evening and ending Friday morning. Those needing to stay over until Saturday morning will be charged an additional $50. Please note that those students wishing to stay on campus, MUST participate in BOTH the Summer Vet and SciTrek Programs. |
