Latitude & Longitude Notes

Latitude
· An angle from the Earth’s center to a location on its surface north or south of the equator determines latitude.
· Measures degrees north or south of the equator (0 to 90 degrees)
 



 


Longitude
· An angle from the Earth’s center to a location east or west of the Prime Meridian determines longitude.  The Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich England.
· Measures degrees east or west of the Prime Meridian.  Longitude is measured from 0 to 180 degrees.
 



 


Latitude and longitude combine to make a grid that can be used to determine your location on Earth.
